my boyfriend introduced me to the magic of puzzle fighter. he’s always playing on his xbox, killing nazis in halo, wielding big weapons and digi-hand grenades, from the comfort of my super-fluffy bed. i’m not sure if this is because all guys have a primal urge to shoot things, or if it’s for the social factor, being that all his friends (with their clever, or slightly absurb) handles are chatting away telling who to shoot where and what. i hear a lot of ‘get the flag!!’.
any way, if i’m in the room, i usually turn down the volume a few notches and start occupying myself in some other way. read a book. play tetris or the sims on my phone. daze off into the nothingness of my wall. really, anything to escape the madness that is xbox.
and then….he introduced me to puzzle fighter. being a tetris, and all things digital puzzle addict myself, he knew this game would hook me.
i’ll admit it’s a pretty shoddy game. as matt puts it, the creaters make the game and its characters use a lot of ‘engrish’ and the graphics seem late-90s. it has a very japanese feel to it, and by japanese, i am referring to the semi-disturbing aisle in the bookstore called ‘manga’. either way, this game is great.
now i am addicted, building my color blocks in strategically placed lines where they will all blast and disappear at just the right moment. i think i am usually the one begging the boyfriend to play with me, because i have become so addicted i can’t play against the weak competiton the game has installed.
this newfound love of strange xbox puzzling has also led me to use all sorts of super-cheesy lines to coax matt into playing.
…..”let me fight your puzzle!”
